The Seelisberg Tunnel on the N02 national road was built in the 1970s and completed at the end of 1980, meaning it has been in operation for around 45 years. It extends over a length of around 9.3 km between the north portal near Beckenried (NW) and the south portal near Bolzbach, Seedorf (UR). As part of the maintenance planning, FEDRO drew up and approved a plan of action for the second overhaul.
The 2nd overhaul of the Seelisberg Tunnel includes extensive measures on the operating and safety equipment as well as structural measures. Due to different urgencies and structural dependencies, the 2nd repair was divided into a project of measures (MP, realization 2027 - 2031) and a concept of measures (MK, realization 2031 - 2033). The central element of the MP is the replacement of the energy supply with a new substation in the Schutter tunnel, which is a prerequisite for the BSA measures of the MK.
As part of the second overhaul, the electrical systems will also be completely renewed, a new extinguishing water pipe will be built, concrete structures and drainage will be repaired and the surface will be partially replaced. The investment volume amounts to several hundred million francs. Ecosens AG was mandated as the environmental project author.
Participation in the technical development of the measures concept and measures project in collaboration with the client and in an interdisciplinary planning team
Comprehensive advice to the client and the planners and specialists involved with regard to environmental aspects and environmental issues
Procurement and evaluation of relevant project and environmental data and development of an environmental relevance matrix
Planning and carrying out inspections and sampling of building pollutants in the road tunnel and its ancillary facilities (technical centers, ventilation systems, etc.)
Evaluation and planning of project-integrated environmental measures for construction (environmental construction supervision UBB)
Draw up one environmental note each for the MP and the MK in accordance with the specifications of the FEDRO environmental checklist
Challenges
Very complex and extensive structure with two separate tunnel tubes, each 9.3 km long, and numerous ancillary facilities (technical centers, energy supply, ventilation and drainage systems)
High urgency of extensive repair work with functional, structural dependencies for intervention-free operation until 2045
High time and cost pressure with a very complex project organization with numerous planners and specialists
Complex construction site organization due to project planning and implementation under traffic and a total construction period of around 7 years
Our solutions
Early involvement in technical project planning and close cooperation with the other planners and specialists involved. As a result, contributions to active project optimization with regard to the environment and environmental regulations are made as early as possible
Professional support from proven environmental experts with many years of experience in motorway projects and other complex infrastructure projects
Close and supportive cooperation in an interdisciplinary project team with specialists from various consulting firms (engineers, BSA, etc.) and the client
