N02 Seelisberg tunnel, 2nd repair

Project author Environment (PV Environment)

The project

The Seelisberg Tunnel on the N02 national road was built in the 1970s and completed at the end of 1980, meaning it has been in operation for around 45 years. It extends over a length of around 9.3 km between the north portal near Beckenried (NW) and the south portal near Bolzbach, Seedorf (UR). As part of the maintenance planning, FEDRO drew up and approved a plan of action for the second overhaul. The 2nd overhaul of the Seelisberg Tunnel includes extensive measures on the operating and safety equipment as well as structural measures. Due to different urgencies and structural dependencies, the 2nd repair was divided into a project of measures (MP, realization 2027 - 2031) and a concept of measures (MK, realization 2031 - 2033). The central element of the MP is the replacement of the energy supply with a new substation in the Schutter tunnel, which is a prerequisite for the BSA measures of the MK. As part of the second overhaul, the electrical systems will also be completely renewed, a new extinguishing water pipe will be built, concrete structures and drainage will be repaired and the surface will be partially replaced. The investment volume amounts to several hundred million francs. Ecosens AG was mandated as the environmental project author.
