Completion of Construction Work on the New SABA Kefikerbach Building, Kefikon, ZH / TG: Environmental Construction Supervision (UBB) and Soil Science Construction Supervision (BBB)
To bring highway drainage up to current technical standards, the Federal Roads Office (ASTRA) is planning to construct several new road stormwater treatment plants (SABA) along the N01 and N07 in the border region between the cantons of Zurich and Thurgau. In the future, after passing through a settling tank with an oil separator (already in place), road runoff will also be treated in a retention filter basin with reed beds before being discharged into a stream as the receiving water body.
The first of these facilities, the SABA Kefikerbach in Kefikon, ZH/TG, was completed in 2026. Following a multi-year planning and permitting process, as well as the contractor bidding process, construction work on the retention filter basin and the new supply line took place from April through September 2026, after which landscaping was completed. Lars Schudel the Ecosens AG As the project manager in charge of environmental matters, he has been overseeing the project since 2023 and, during the construction phase, was supported by Andrea Bringolf provided environmental construction supervision (UBB) and pedological construction supervision (BBB).
After a roughly 6-month establishment period for the reed beds, the SABA Kefikerbach is expected to begin operations in the summer of 2027.
We would like to thank everyone involved in the project for their successful and pleasant collaboration on this interesting project.
