Various samples have shown that PFAS are present in the tunnel wastewater from the Ceneri Base Tunnel and in the seepage water from the Sigirino deposit.
SBB subsequently commissioned Ecosens AG with the documentation and technical assessment of the measurement results and the development of recommendations for the implementation of safety measures, as well as with the legal assessment of the consequences of PFAS contamination.
Not only the complex flow paths in the area of the deposits, but also the understanding of the interrelationships between the tunnel structure and the seepage water issue posed a challenge for Ecosens AG. Our services included, in particular, a technical risk assessment and a comprehensible presentation of the legal situation and responsibilities.
All the results of tests, measurements and legal clarifications were incorporated into meaningful and clear documentation, which serves SBB as a basis for further decision-making processes.
