KEZO 2028 New waste recycling plant

Environmental impact report (EIR)

The project

The KEZO Hinwil waste incineration plant is approaching the end of its service life, 50 years after the first incineration line was commissioned in 1972. In order to ensure modern, economical and environmentally friendly waste recycling in the future, the cantonal waste planning calls for the Hinwil waste incineration plant to be replaced by a new plant at the same location with a capacity reduced to 120,000 tons of waste per year. The new KEZO plant is scheduled to commence operations in 2028. The new replacement will be built in parallel with the ongoing operation of the existing plant A revision of the existing design plan, a rezoning to the zone for public buildings and an encroachment of the agricultural area will create the legal planning basis for the realization of the KEZO 2028.
